Sprain or Strain

Sprain – refers to injuries f the ligament [which is help to connect bone to bone].

Strain – refers to injuries to the muscles or tendons [which help to connect muscles to bone].

Sprain and strains occur from quick over-stretching of tissue causing micro-trauma\tearing and subsequent injury. Swelling begins as part of the inflammation process, causing pain and difficulty with movement.

Physiotherapy Management

Phase 1 Initially RICE therapy [rest, ice, compression, and elevation] and also give electrical stimulation IFT and ultrasound for healing and to reduce pain.

Phase 2 after relieving pain and swelling starts the mobilization [ ROM exercise]

Phase 3 after 2-3 weeks start balance training and strengthening exercises to strengthen the muscles.
