Meniscus Injury

Meniscus Injury

The meniscus is a ring of cartilage on the lower part of the knee (the tibial plateau) that the end of the large femur bone rides on.

The meniscus provides cushioning and stability to the joint while guiding movement, it is a shock absorber. It is connected to the outer edges of the thick ligaments around the knee.

There are two meniscus:-

  1. MEDIAL MENISCUS – inside part of the knee bears more weight and often sustains more damage (MS>ML)
  2. LATERAL MENISCUS – Outer part of the knee bears less weight and less damage as compared to the medial meniscus.
