Hamstring Strain

Hamstring Strain:-

It is caused by rapid concentric contraction or a violent stretch of the hamstring muscle due to which rupture occurs within the fibres of the muscle tendinous unit.

Clinical Presentation includes:-

  • Pain
  • Tenderness
  • loss in the range of motion
  • Decreased strength
  • Decreased length of the hamstrings.

Hamstring strains are categorized into 3  Groups:-

  • Grade 1 is mild in this a few fibres of muscles are damaged or ruptured.
  • Grade 2 is moderate in this half of the fibre is torn.
  • Grade 3 is severe ranging from more than half of the fibre ruptured to complete rupture of the muscle.

Physiotherapy Management:-

The main goal is to restore the patient's functions to the highest possible degree.

Strengthening exercise has a posture effect.

Deep stripping massage is another technique used as rehabilitation for hamstring strain injury.

Ice 2-3 times daily.

The lateral and retro band walks.

Kinesiology tape is used in order to improve muscle flexibility.
