Trochanteric Bursitis

It is an inflammation of the trochanteric bursas. It describes the pain around the greater trochanteric region of the hip.

Inflammation of the bursa is a slow process that progresses over time. This bursitis most often occurs because of friction. overuse direct trauma or too much pressure.

Clinical presentation includes:-

Hip Tenderness in the lateral aspect of the hip may radiate down the thigh.

The patient is unable to lie down on the affected side.

Lower back pain.

Physiotherapy Management

  • Modalities such as IFT/TENS are used to reduce pain & swelling.
  • Physical therapy improves flexibility, muscle strengthening & joint mechanics.
  • With ice therapy and hot pack exercise, the inflammation is treated in order to reduce it.
  • Taping Technique soft tissue massage is also helpful.
  • The next phase of rehabilitation is the restoration of all functions.
  • The goal is to provide a specialized program for the patient to improve movement and reduce pain. So that patient can perform their daily activities with less difficulty.
  • Core muscle training is done in order to safely return to their activities.
