Osteoarthritis
A common form of arthritis. It occurs when the protective cartilage that cushions the end of the bones wears down over time. It is a degenerative disease that worsens over time, often resulting in chronic pain. Joint pain and stiffness can become severe enough to make daily tasks difficult. Depression and sleep disturbances can result from the pain and disability of osteoarthritis. Females are more likely to develop arthritis.
Symptoms
Pain, stiffness, loss of flexibility, tenderness and swelling, etc.
Risk Factor
Old age, gender, obesity, joint injuries, repeated stress on the joint, genetics, bone deformity, and metabolic disease.
Physical Therapy
Modalities- TENS, IFT, Ultrasound, hot pack,
Rehabilitation- exercises to strengthen the muscles around the joint, improve flexibility, increase joint ROM and reduce pain.
